Since 1954 Godzilla has transformed physically numerous times. Some successful and some not. Some depict a furious force of nature, some depict a mutated frog puppet. Regardless, Godzilla is dear to our hearts even if he doesn't satisfy as eye candy. Well let's leap into this....TOP 5 GODZILLA DESIGNS!
#5 Godzilla (2014)
Legendary did a fantastic job in the 2014 reboot of Godzilla. The design was more realistic than anything we had seen before. It was an American Godzilla that we could be proud of. The story was decent, could've been better, but still Godzilla worthy. As with most Godzilla fans abroad, we just wanted to see MORE. That's a good thing right?
What I LOVE:
Realistic and visually stunning. The spikes are cool and jagged. The height...350 ft. Oh yeah! Overall it satisfied my thirst for new Godzilla.
What I HATED:
The upper body of this Godzilla doesn't look properly proportioned. He looks really top heavy and obese. The eyes are smaller than ever. How can poor Godzilla aim his atomic breath with those pupils? The feet. They are small and chunky. Not something Dr. Scholl's wants to see every morning.
#4 Godzilla: Giant Monsters All Out Attack
This Godzilla design is very unique. It stands out. It has it's own feel. That is why it comes in at number four. One of the more vicious and powerful Godzilla depictions, this version just looks the part it plays. Oh and it has one of my favorite atomic breath rays EVER. But that is another countdown to be discussed....
What I LOVED:
The teeth, the viciousness that has been lacking since the original. This Godzilla came back to avenge the human race without prejudice. The spines are solid and the body proportions are far more superior than Legendary.
What I HATED:
All of us Godzilla fans know of the rubber suit animation that TOHO uses. Most of the time you get lost in the movie and forget the suit. Not here. It is so blatantly obvious that this is a suit. Every time you see Godzilla you can smell the rubber. Way...too...obvious. The eyes have no pupils, no detail. Just solid white. I can see why a fan would like this, but it just doesn't look realistic to me. This version is also VERY SHORT. Like Hornswaggle WWE short. Seriously.
#3 Godzilla vs. Biollante
What I LOVE:
Umm, everything. Huge spines and that face, who couldn't love that face!
What I HATE:
I do have two minor, and picky critiques. The legs are massive and shows Godzilla has a "cankle" issue. Lastly, the suit shows it's rubber self in a few scenes. Other than that, much love.
#2 Godzilla vs The Thing
This Godzilla is ahead of the curve for this era. By far the most dominate and fierce look in the Showa Era. We must remember that Godzilla was originally a villian. A force created to remind mankind of just how small he is (Raymond Burr). This is the perfect Showa Era Godzilla.
What I LOVE:
Pretty much everything again. Solid design and the suit is masked well. The look facially is very intimidating.
What I HATE:
The only complaint is the spines. I am a fan of larger spines on Godzilla.
#1 Godzilla vs. Destroyah
Perfection upgraded to off the charts awesomeness. I was blown away at this look and still get chills looking at it. Some refer this depiction as "Burning Godzilla", which is very accurate! This Godzilla became so powerful that it couldn't contain itself! With the most violent atomic ray of all time, and pulsating nuclear matter oozing through his skin, this Godzilla is the greatest of all time. The most powerful of all time. No Godzilla or TOHO or Legendary or any creation for that matter can compete against this goliath.
What I LOVE:
Absolutely everything. The spines are glowing, large, and melting ha! He plays the roll of father, protector, and villian all in the same movie! Just amazing.
What I HATE:
NOTHING!!!!!
